    Prednisone and thyroid

Although my focus is to attempt to use natural treatment methods whenever possible, I realize there is a time and place for prescription drugs, as well as surgery, and other medical procedures. The problem is that most medical doctors become too reliant on conventional medical treatments, and many times these doctors don’t do anything to determine the actual cause of a problem. Sure, sometimes the medication they prescribe has minimal side effects, even if taken long term. On the other hand, other drugs they recommend to their patients can have severe implications if taken long term. Corticosteroids, such as Prednisone, fall under the latter category. In fact, even when taken for a short period of time these drugs put a major strain on our bodies. And when taken over a period of many months or years, the consequences can be detrimental. sildenafil mg It's been about 7 years since I've had my thyroid tested. But eventually I will probably have them drained with a needle. I had one nodule and the doctor wanted to get a biopsy. That was back in the day when you could actually call your doctor and reach him. I stopped the pill and haven't taken anything since as he wanted to just leave things alone to see which way I was going to swing. And I'm still not doing anything for it cept juicing fresh spinach and carrot...which is supposed to be good for everything. I guess I feel pretty good with the exception of not much energy. Blood work showed borderline hypo, but still normal. I thought it was going to show I was hyper, but it turns out I tested hypo. So he numbed my throat and neck and stuck a suction needle in. Anyway, I asked him if I was supposed to be feeling like I'm going 500 miles an hour internally. On top of that, I also have heavy long periods that last for like 7 days or more, which is why they even looked at my thyroid. I haven't done anything about them because if it wasn't for the nodules I would really appear as a "pencil neck." LOL! I went nuts and ended up calling him in the middle of the night. Apparently I had tested borderline hyper/hypo..he had wanted me to take the pill to push me over the line one way or the other. I have 3 nodules, last US showed they were small and probably insignificant. I'm thinking my thyroid is slightly out of whack and prednisone is the cause, because now I'm on prednisone and my symptoms are worse. I'm thinking about increasing my iodine or something. Have you/anyone tried any natural supplements or anything else for thyroid support? From what I've read and heard it isn't good to increase iodine if you have Hashimoto's thyroid....which apparently most women have, as opposed to just hypo thyroid. And recently I've read that up to 80% of all seniors have nodules that aren't noticeable. Just before I developed my first nodule years back, I had been feeling draggy.

Prednisone suppresses the immune system thereby stopping the bodies attack on the thyroid. It only works in the short term, I personally think it gives the thyroid a break, but once your off. The body continues to attack and destroy the thyroid.

Silly question for you lab and drug interaction experts out there. it hangs in the system for almost forever - sometimes 3 to 6 months... I know that long-term use of prednisone can block thyroid absorption but would a 6-day course of prednisone (METHYLPREDNISOLONE 4MG DOSPAK 21) block absorption enough to bump a TSH from 0.11 to 22.06 even while taking the required thyroid supplements???? labs on 10/21/09 Free T3 1.8 Free T4 0.53 TSH 22.06 Thyroglobulin .7 labs on 7/22/09 Free T3 3.9 Free T4 .88 TSH .11 Thyroglobulin .1 My endo (who is also a Ph D in biochemistry) said that the prednisone would have skewed the labs slightly but would have skewed them down (meaning that my TSH is actually higher). The last time I *had* to get my TSH this high (for RAI) it took me 4 weeks and the low iodine diet to get my TSH this high (and I still had remaining thyroid tissue). He said my problem is an absorption problem probably caused by all of my GI surgeries and GI bleeds. BTW - my Free T3 1.8 (down from 3.9 three months ago) and my Free T4 .53 (down from .88). Prednisone does affect your levels, Including short dosages.. I was also switched from Armour to a compounded natural thyroid a month ago because of the worldwide Armour shortage and we aren't sure the compound is working so I'm back on Synthroid with Cytomel. Waiting for the Tg (will take a few days) Is there ANY possible way the prednisone made such a huge jump in the TSH??? My doctor refused to do my thyroid labs while i was on a 7 day DOSPAK, he said it would throw the numbers off. steriods of any kind are nightmares for thyroid meds..... We'll see if it helps with the hives, and immune problems I've been experiencing lately. I don't remember how long either i had to wait, I think it was at least 2 - 3 weeks after discontinuing the Prednisone. I actually had no idea I am hypo - I've been heat-intolerant, losing weight, shaky, and having chest pains - I just figured the exhaustion was from all of the post-surgery trauma and blood loss. 7. Studies show that Prednisone can potentially affect the TSH levels, but I don’t know of any evidence showing that other immunosuppressive drugs can directly affect the thyroid hormone levels. However, they can decrease the thyroid antibodies, which in turn can affect the thyroid panel.

Stick-straight, fine hair that did very little besides sit there. Then, I went on Clomid, fertility pill of the devil himself: That shit . Of course, I also had NO BABY and a raging case of major depression, panic disorder and OCD. Baby is born, hair falls the fuck out, everything once again returns to normal, which is boring, so I decided to dye my hair red: Despite looking absolutely terrible in web-only color format, I like it. (On the plus side, my leg hair has all but stopped growing. First, this was me (and my hair) back before I ever decided to have babies: I mean, not that thin or out of proportion, but you get the idea. I found it incredibly boring, and spent every other year wondering if "bangs would help," and then every other year in between THAT attempting to grow out my stupid bangs. The exact same thing happened when I got pregnant the second time. Lots and lots of hair that saw no reason to stay confined to . They will not lie flat, they will be tamed, they will NOT just sit there and stand by while The Man attempts to suppress their attempts to unionize. You know I'm serious when I bust out the stick figures and paintbrush tool, yo. Until I was about five or six weeks postpartum, when suddenly every non-shed-over-the-previous-nine-months hair decided to fall off my head simultaneously in giant-ass chunks. Six months' worth of new hair growth means I have a thick coat of three-inch freakazoid hairs sticking straight up and out all over my head. This topic is so intensely important, I felt compelled to create some illustrations. And sometime around the second trimester, I realized I stopped shedding hair, and even though it was still fine and stick-straight, I had a of it: Our tub drains rejoiced as well. The semi-permanent dye agrees with my hair much better than the permanent blond highlights I used to get, so I sometimes even see a return to the days of the awesome Clomid waves. Except do you know how long it takes to grow more hair from scratch? I can shave about once every three weeks or so.) (Don't be jealous, though, my have decided to pick up the slack. So when I got pregnant AGAIN, I was genuinely looking forward to how COMPLETELY AWESOME MY HAIR WAS GOING TO LOOK THIS TIME YAY. I still shed hair at my usual pre-pregnancy drain-clogging rate. If I stop paying attention to them, they quickly start creeping upwards towards my forehead, Donald-Trump-combover style.) (Whatever. Me and my bushy old-man eyebrows are totally used to it by now.) But what I'm REALLY starting to wonder, though, is what will happen this time at that six-week postpartum hair-fall-out-ing point. Or will I lose nothing but chunks of my PRE-EXISTING HAIR, and thus look something like this in about four or five months: Moral of the story: I think I'm going to buy a wig.
