    Prednisone therapy

Prednisone is similar to cortisol, a hormone naturally made by your adrenal glands. If you take prednisone for more than a few weeks, your adrenal glands decrease cortisol production. A gradual reduction in prednisone dosage gives your adrenal glands time to resume their normal function. The amount of time it takes to taper off prednisone depends on the disease being treated, the dose and duration of use, and other medical considerations. A full recovery can take anywhere from a week to several months. Contact your doctor if you experience prednisone withdrawal symptoms as you are tapering off the drug. I have tried prednisone alone, then cyclosporine (while on prednisone), then prograf (while on prednisone) and lastly cytoxan (while on prednisone) and the closest to success I got was with cytoxan - I got a 3 month drug free remission with that one. The others didn't fully work, I just continued to relapse each time I got low on prednisone. I respond very quickly to prednisone but again relapse around 2.5 - 5 mg's daily. So, my doctor has suggested long term, low dose prednisone therapy. She's thinking 12 mg's daily for a year and then trying to taper down as low as possible - she's mentioned 10 mg's every other day is probably what I'd stay at. I had a relapse prior to that, and began again with 40mg of pred. I'd just like to hear from anyone who's on long term, low dose prednisone therapy to find out how well you tolerate it. I tapered slowly over 6 months until I reached 5mg. I did fairly well on prednisone, with few really bad effects.

Amrol, MD A Swiss study provides the final piece of evidence that short-course steroids are equivalent to longer courses. Prednisone is a drug that suppresses your immune system and reduces inflammation. It’s used to treat many conditions, such as psoriasis, rheumatoid arthritis, and ulcerative colitis. Although prednisone withdrawal usually happens after long-term treatment, it can happen after short-term treatment as well. Stopping the drug or reducing your use too quickly may lead to withdrawal. If you’re taking prednisone for any treatment, you should know about prednisone withdrawal. It’s very similar to cortisol, a hormone your body makes naturally. Cortisol helps you regulate your blood pressure, heart rate, and response to stress. Your body generally works to make sure you have a consistent level of cortisol.

Metformin is an insulin-sensitizing drug primarily used to treat diabetes, but it can also be used for fertility. Women with PCOS may benefit from taking metformin alone, along with Clomid, or even during IVF treatment. Exactly how metformin improves fertility is unclear. While metformin may be used for the treatment of infertility, it is not a fertility drug. In fact, using it to treat infertility is considered an off-label use. (In other words, pregnancy achievement is not the original intended purpose of this drug.) What is this medication? To understand what metformin does, you first need to know what insulin resistance is. Insulin resistance is when the body's cells stop reacting to normal levels of insulin. As a result, the body thinks that there is not enough insulin in the system. This triggers the production of more insulin than your body needs. Metformin medicine to treat type 2 diabetes - NHS.
