What to Keep in Mind If Your Doctor Prescribes Zoloft - Verywell Mind

Like any medication, antidepressants can cause side effects. The specific problems vary from drug to drug -- and from person to person. In fact, side effects are one of the main reasons that people with depression stop taking their medicine during their recovery. One study found that 65% of the 1,000 people surveyed said they had stopped taking their medicine, and half of those people cited side effects as the reason. Yet it's important to keep in mind that antidepressants can help you recover. The American Psychiatric Association recommends that people keep taking their medicine at least for four to five months after they recover from a first depressive episode -- in order to reduce the risk of relapse. And for people who have had multiple previous episodes, the recommendation is often longer (or sometimes even to continue indefinitely). I feel for you in as much as no sleep and the upset stomach. Down side, your anti-depressant will not be working as well. Reading the reviews, it stated that you would be able to sleep 8-9 hours, but I was just thrilled to sleep for more than two hours! The upset stomach, you might purchase an over the counter ant-acid medication. I might add this, ask him to prescribe you another medication, such as seroquel, which will help with your depression and help you to sleep. I forgot to mention this that people do get upset stomachs, diarrhea, nausea, while taking zoloft. I wanted to let you all know that last night I took the equate/walmart brand of nighttime sleep aid. Hopefully, this will help someone else suffering from insomnia while getting used to zoloft! Like you commented earliar, I only had about 5 hours. Hi Angie, I know this is a long time ago but wanted to know how you ended up regarding your insomnia from Zoloft? sweetlemon, I recall recommened some home remedies, teas that sort of thing, in regards to helping you sleep. will not write you a prescription, as was talked about earlier, such as tradazone. I for a time, had nausea, but it left me, after a few weeks. Again, best wishes Angie, truly hope you feel better asap. Sweetie Pie Sweetie pie, I appreciate all of your feedback. I guess the active ingredient wires me instead of sedates me! Angie, I thought I mentioned the Equate previously. But when you have not slept for 3 days, those 5 hours feel like 8 hours! The only drawback is that the drug takes awhile to be effective. Well I hope that your insomnia gets better and that you will be able to stay on the Zoloft. I have afeeling that I am going to be like you and never shake the insomnia. I started on 25mg and immediately had terrible insomnia, had to quit after a week. Hey Angie, Hang in there, the side effects of upset stomach and insomnia usually sibside after a couple of weeks. Anyway, I am going to stick with zoloft for another week in hopes that the insomnia diminishes. I continue to have insomnia but I am afraid to change meds because it really helps control my depression and anxiety. Sweetie Pie I hate to hear that you have been on zoloft for years and still suffer from insomnia. It's been 2 weeks but the insomnia still remains - any insights onto how much longer? Less zoloft equals a better chance that you rest/sleep. I recommend peppermint tea or candies for the nausea and be sure to take the Zoloft in the morning. I have been on Zoloft for years now and I still have insomnia. My doctor tried decreasing the Zoloft but my depressive symptoms reoccured. I know that insomnia can cause other medical/mental problems. Sweetie Pie I have another question about the Benedryl. I would give the Zoloft a good try, say at least a month before deciding whether it is helping or not. I had nausea when I first started on Zoloft but it went away in about 4 days. My doctor did prescribe Ambien, Clonazepam, Trazodone, and other medications but they all had too many uncomfortable side effects. I have Benedryl Allergy 25mg in my medicine cabinet. You can try 25 mg but you may need to take a higher dose.

When you think of gallstones, you may think of a painful attack. However, the truth is that more than 80 percent of people with gallstones will never experience a symptom in their lifetime. What's more, the likelihood of experiencing symptoms diminishes over time, although your chance of developing gallstones increases as you age. Symptoms of gallstones tend to be fairly noticeable and painful. When symptoms of gallstones do occur, they are often called an "attack" because they occur suddenly. Gallstone attacks often follow fatty meals and they may occur during the night. Only 1 percent to 4 percent of individuals with gallstones will develop symptoms each year. Has anyone taking zoloft experienced muscle and body aches while on the medication? It seems like a lot of the anti-anxiety meds effect my muscles and cause soreness and pain. I am an avid exerciser and I have pulled and strained several muscles since starting the meds. I am on effexor now and it has a similar effect on me, it also has helped my anxiety and panic too. I also am in a constant state of overall muscle achey-ness and stiffness. So for now I ice and take advil, and deal with the pain because it's SO much better than anxiety! It seem very coincidental to me that it al started after the zoloft and has persisted since. I finally got off Zoloft after five years and now I have "feelings" again and more energy and am happier. Very stiff (rigid) muscles is a serious side effect, do contact your Doctor immediately and let him / her know what you are experinecing. As far as stiffness including joint or connective tissue pain I swear by Glucosamine, even once a day works and there are no side effects. I started taking Zoloft years ago and had what you describe My calve muscles especially and hamstrings were very tight. I just lived with it and thought it was Fibromyalgia. I got very ill with Serotonin syndrome last year and the muscle stiffness progressed to spasms and hyper reflexes, and ended with me going into "seizures' of uncontrollable jerking all over my body. For future reference: Get emergency medical help if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction: skin rash or hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat. I quit taking Zoloft and the muscles returned to normal. Call your doctor at once if you have any new or worsening symptoms such as: mood or behavior changes, anxiety, panic attacks, trouble sleeping, or if you feel impulsive, irritable, agitated, hostile, aggressive, restless, hyperactive (mentally or physically), more depressed, or have thoughts about suicide or hurting yourself. I had also been diagnosed with irritable bowel syndrome and that went away too. =P I am very active and it has been so hard not to be mobile and active. I agree with you, at this point my anxiety an panic disorder will be a welcome relief from all that the zoloft has done to me!
