The Pros and Cons of Anti-Anxiety Medications – Take This

Tbh I’m scared to take it b/c the reviews are so so ... This is my first time experiencing PPD and my ob put me on Zoloft. Someone please shed some light on your experience ... I’ve been taking 50mg since 2 weeks postpartum - about 3 months now. I had a complicated pregnancy that ended with a three week NICU stay and really didn’t feel like myself had trouble getting out of bed to visit DD and cried a lot. Cons: my low birth weight baby started eating less and plateaued on his growth curve (1st percentile). I am currently taking 12.5 mg (which is sub therapeutic, but just takes the edge off for me and doesn’t seem to bother LO) and have started supplementing with formula. The zoloft definitely made me feel like myself again. Baby became very fussy (we felt like it took everything we had to just keep him from crying all day long). The goal is to get baby eating enough formula that I can increase my dose back up to 25 mg without affecting him. It can decrease sex drive and I sometimes get terrible night sweats but otherwise the side effects outweigh the benefits for me. I hesitated taking it too for a month after my OB prescribed. June 2, 2000 -- "I look so awful, I'm afraid to leave the house! " Maura, a graceful 39-year-old Irish woman, had been a psychotherapy patient of mine for about a year when she began developing strange, fluttering tics around her eyes. The tics eventually grew to include involuntary chewing motions and twitching of her lips. She wore sunglasses and scarves to cover the disfiguring movements. What happened to Maura is called "tardive dyskinesia," and it's one of the most worrisome side effects of many psychiatric drugs prescribed in America, including Prozac. Maura's primary care physician had put her on Prozac two years earlier because she'd been feeling anxious and weepy whenever she drove on highways. A year after that, she became my psychotherapy patient, and after she successfully completed therapy, we began cutting back on her Prozac prescription. Still, what had started as mild facial tics became uncontrollable symptoms that confined Maura to her house.

If your teen is struggling with depression, you might be wondering if medication might help. Antidepressant medications, while generally safe, can have unpleasant side effects, and recent warnings about teens and antidepressant use are worrisome. On the flip side, they can also dramatically improve your mood. For these reasons, it’s important to weigh the pros and cons of medication use. Overview Teen depression is a serious mental health condition that causes persistent feelings of sadness and loss of interest in activities. It affects how a teen thinks and behaves and can negatively impact school, family, and social functioning. According to the National Institute of Mental Health, approximately 3 million American adolescents, age 12 to 17, had at least one major depressive episode in 2015. It seemed like the first few days I didn’t really notice much except I would wake up in the mornings feeing slightly nauseous. Then about a month or so in I started getting tremors in my upper body and I could sense them coming on a few hours before waking up every single morning and I try so hard to just sleep through them. Then eventually I’ll toss and turn and no matter what position I sleep in it hurts my body. Then I’ll wake up to horrible pain in my back, neck and shoulders. I wouldn’t take it ever again and I’m only on 25mg so I’m hoping to get off really soon! ""Started with 50mg for 4 months but felt like it wasn't doing anything.
